Fellow Highlander Teachers….. Several JROTC students have been offered an exciting opportunity. One hundred executives from AT&T are having a conference at the Incline Village Hyatt on 22 September and have invited the Incline JROTC to participate. This will not only give JROTC students some visibility in the local community but also give them a fantastic opportunity to make some potential employment contacts. The students will be involved in numerous team building activities and will be working with the executives to assemble care packages for deployed military members. If you have an questions or concerns please feel free to contact 1 SGT Porter or Chief Malara. Again thank you for your support. If you/or some of your students are interested as a class contact Chief.
*Want to spend a year in a foreign country? See Jeni Cross in room 306 for details.

All 10th grade students will be taking the PSAT on Wednesday 10/15. This is a valuable test to prepare students for the SAT in addition to providing scholarship and recognition opportunities. Any 9th or 11th grade students who would like to take the test must pay $14 (at the front office) no later than Thursday 9/25. Late registration will not be permitted.

Dear Incline High Students and Parents,
It is my pleasure to announce the hiring of Incline High School’s new site administrator!  Mr. Andrew Yoxsimer has worked in the Washoe County School District for over two decades as a middle and high school teacher, implementation specialist, and school administrator.  He is currently in the final stages of his dissertation and will earn his Ph.D. in December of 2014.  With experience as an implementation specialist, Mr. Yoxsimer brings a strong background in instructional leadership to Incline High School.  He has been trained by AVID™, becoming an expert in strategies that support writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading.  During his years in the classroom, he also coached the Galena High School ski team.  With experience in grades 7-12, Mr. Yoxsimer will be able to help move the Incline schools towards the K-12 model.  His broad experience in curriculum, athletics, and school leadership are a perfect fit for our school.  Please read the attached letter from Mr. Yoxsimer and make sure to stop in during August for a visit!  Enjoy the beautiful summer days ahead.
Yours in Incline Pride,
Leslie Hermann, K-12 Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians:
I hope this letter finds you in good health, well rested and enjoying your summer. As we gear up for the new school year I am excited to be joining Incline High School as the new site administrator. I bring 23 years of experience in education to Incline High School.
In my most recent role, I served as an implementation specialist for Washoe County School District.   I received and provided extensive training and professional development around planning and effective instructional strategies for K-12 teachers and administrators. My administrative experience includes serving as principal of Sparks Middle School, Assistant Principal at Swope and O’Brien Middle Schools, as well as Dean of Students at O’Brien Middle School. As a classroom teacher, I taught social studies at Galena High School. Prior to that I taught middle school math, science, social studies and P.E. at Natchez Elementary School.
I look forward to meeting you at one of a series of new gatherings we’ve dubbed “Incline Morning Chats.” The Chats are designed to foster communication and community for all who work to support the Highlanders – from a staff and parent/guardian perspective. Please see below for the first series of scheduled Chats when we will invite you to join us for a cup of coffee, tea or a snack and talk with our Highlander leadership team about what is going well, what we need to be aware of, or just “chat”.
Please join me on one of the following dates at 8:30 a.m. so we can get to know one another:
Wednesday, August 13
Wednesday August 20 UPDATE Thursday, August 21 3:30pm
I look forward to seeing you soon.
Andrew Yoxsimer
