Each year in March, it is my pleasure to announce the valedictorian and salutatorian of the upcoming graduating class. These honored graduates are chosen on the basis of their weighted grade point average at the completion of seven semesters of high school. Honors and advanced placement classes receive an extra "weight" because of their rigor. I am pleased, therefore, to inform everyone that our valedictorian for the graduation class of 2010 is Shanna Murray. Next in line and closely behind is our salutatorian. Our salutatorian for the class of 2010 is Sean McClelland. Congratulations to both these students and we look forward to hearing from them at graduation.

I  would also like to mention that the class of 2010 has produced several students who have maintained a perfect 4.0 or all A average for their four years of high school. These students are: Michael Ceragioli, Josh Dykstra, Sean McClelland, Shanna Murray, and Max Wynne. Congratulations also to these students. Of special note, too, is that our four seniors who were named semifinalists in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship competition in the fall have now advanced to the finalist ranking! Those seniors are: Michael Ceragioli, Sean McClelland, Shanna Murray, and Sterling Vinson. In academics also, the Boys Varsity Basketball team won the prestigious Academic State Champion award for having the highest grade point average of all the winter sports boy athletes in the state of Nevada.

We are very proud of our We The People team which captured the Nevada state title at recent competition in Carson City and will now represent Nevada at the national competition in Washington D.C. next month. Good luck at nationals!

In sports, Incline High School has garnered 13 Nevada state titles in team or individual competition since the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year. This is quite an impressive feat for our little school. Congratulations to all coaches and athletes for these wonderful accomplishments.

Special kudos go to Boys Varsity Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Dan Schreiber for being named Athletic Director of the Year and Coach of the Year! You can read all the sports news in the sports section of this newsletter.

The end of the school year is rapidly approaching.  Therefore, keep in mind as June rapidly descends upon us that there are numerous exams, projects and other activities that lie ahead.  For instance, we have state mandated High School Proficiency Exams for any student who has not yet passed those tests on May 3-5.  Keep in mind, in order for any student to graduate from any high school in the state of Nevada; he/she must pass all portions of the High School Proficiency Examination.

Also, quickly approaching are Advanced Placement exams which take place May 3-14, 2010, finals June 14-16, 2010, prom, musical, graduation as well as numerous sporting events.  With such a busy schedule, please discuss with your child the importance of staying caught up and organized.

We are already at the midway point of the spring semester and planning for next year is already in the works.  On March 25, 2010 we will be hosting 8th pre-registration at the middle school, while high school students will be provided information regarding pre-registration for next school year by their enrichment teacher.  The information your son or daughter will receive is meant to help with course selections for next school year to chart the necessary courses of study prepare all for college or career readiness.  This is an excellent opportunity for parents to assist and discuss with their child future plans and how the courses he/she selects for next year will prepare them.  The final phase of selecting classes for next year is the annual arena scheduling.  Arena scheduling gives students the opportunity to meet with teachers and pick classes for next year.

On a final note, we are always available to assist you.  Therefore, if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s education please do not hesitate to phone the school @ 832-4260.
