Incline Downs Truckee
The Highlanders took to their home mat for the first time this season, facing the Truckee Wolverines in a long standing rivalry. Incline edged their opponents 51-24 in a dual filled mostly with forfeit victories.
Incline was able to gain the edge early on with a key win from new comer Tommy Annese, who moved up a weight class to face Matthias Baunann. Tommy controlled much of the match after a solid first period double, and was able to repeat the same in the second period while turning his opponent for the pin. Tommy has come along way and has developed into quite the wrester over the past month. He works hard in practice to improve himself and it is paying off on the mat.
Moises Navarro also wrestled well in securing two victories on the night. He started off with a close win over Tyler Curtis which had him collecting a lot of riding time while working turns throughout much of the match. Moises will learn that outlasting an opponent in a close match can sometimes be as dominating as a first period pin. He showed how his conditioning was superior and stayed in control until the final buzzer. We saw more of the points scored in his second match as he bounced back from an early takedown against Cody Neill with a second period burst of nearfalls to take a lead that he would not relinquish. We saw some toughness in Moises that the whole team will be able to feed off of.
Veterans Jimmy Markman and Sean Fox were also able to earn solid victories over their opponents, both by pin. Each of them demonstrated relentless neutral pressure, something the team has been trying to improve. Both will be counted on to continue their performances throughout the season.
Incline will next head to the competitive Marty Manges Invitational in Orangevale, CA this weekend.
