AFI is approaching and
it’s approaching fast. For those
of you who are new to the program and have never experienced an AFI, don’t
worry. We all tell horror stories to scare you (you know you’ve
heard them: standing in formation for two hours straight, cadets
passing out left and right, evil inspectors spitting in your face as they ask
you impossibly difficult questions) but in reality, AFI is not too bad as
long as you are prepared. That
means you get your uniform into shape, pay attention during marching rehearsals,
and make sure that you know all of your AFI Study Sheet inside and out.
Unfortunately, a lot of cadets get the not-so-bright idea to “have a doctor appointment” on the day of AFI. Bad idea. Sure, you will get out of AFI, but you will let the rest of your Battalion down, as more than three absences make it IMPOSSIBLE for us to get the gold star no matter what. So, if you really are worried about AFI—or are just too lazy to participate—talk to someone who will motivate you to come. If you realize that you really just do not want to do it, then maybe you should reconsider your place in the ROTC program, because being a member of the Highlander Battalion means being up for all sorts of challenges—even one that involves standing in formation for two hours until you pass out. Just kidding! J
