Welcome to Incline High's honors Biology class.  Mr. Brown runs the class.  That is him in the picture at the right.   You wouldn't believe the stuff we do in here.  To start, peas are not only a popular thing to eat, but are good experiment subjects as well.  In this cell respiration lab, an apparatus was set up to record plant respiration in germinating peas.
This lab was intended to study the amount of oxygen consumed by germinating peas during respiration.  To record this, three respirometers, with either germinating peas or non-germinating peas were used and the amount of oxygen they consumed was measured.  To make sure the dry peas were the same volume as the germinating peas, beads were used to fill the extra space.  As a control for the experiment, a vile filled with beads was used.  To record respiration at different temperatures, we set up two water baths.  One bath was kept at room temperature, the other was placed at 11°C.
To find out more, do the experiment or read a book.
